The Transportation Development Association of Wisconsin is a statewide nonprofit organization working to promote understanding of the crucial role that a safe, efficient and reliable transportation system plays both in providing mobility for the people of Wisconsin and in driving the growth of our state’s economy. Now in its fourth decade, TDA represents the interests of more than 400 member organizations working to ensure the vitality of our state’s transportation network.

Our Goal

What Wisconsin's
Elected Officials are Saying
"TDA has been an invaluable resource for me in my efforts to do what's best for transportation in Wisconsin. TDA brings all the pieces together, providing me with a big picture view of the state's transportation challenges. I appreciate their taking the time to come to Washington every spring to discuss the issues with me and the diligence throughout the year in keeping me informed of how transportation policies affect Wisconsin."

U.S. Senator Herb Kohl
Wisconsin

"The Transportation Development Association has been a tireless and effective advocate for better transportation for our state and provided a lot of help for my efforts to get a fair deal for Wisconsin, bringing hundreds of millions of additional federal dollars into the state for our roads."

U.S. Representative Tom Petri
Wisconsin’s Sixth Congressional District

“The transportation investment that TDA is such a strong advocate for is a major driver of economic development in our state. You can lay your hands on it and count the thousands upon thousands of jobs it creates.”

Senator Russell Decker
29th Wisconsin Senate District
Senate Majority Leader

"Wisconsin is well served by the active leadership role played by TDA and its members. Their consistent efforts to promote efficient, safe, economical transportation for all our state's residents is helping to move Wisconsin forward into the economy of the 21st century."

Representative Jeff Stone
82nd Wisconsin Assembly District
Member of the Joint Committee on Finance

TDA's primary goal is the development and maintenance of a safe, balanced and interconnected transportation network that can meet Wisconsin's present and future mobility needs efficiently and effectively. That system should serve all areas of the state, all segments of its economy, and every Wisconsin resident.

Wisconsin's transportation advocates
TDA members are dedicated to working together for viable solutions designed to address the transportation challenges that face our state. The spirit of cooperation – across transportation modes, levels of government, and industry sectors – is the key ingredient that makes TDA what it is: a prime Wisconsin resource for clear transportation-policy analysis and a crucial participant in the statewide transportation- planning process.

TDA successfully strives to keep transportation issues in the public eye. TDA presentations, publications, major studies and responses to media inquiries, as well as TDA-sponsored meetings among transportation stakeholders are some of the many ways the organization fosters understanding about the importance of transportation to our state’s economy and the lives of its residents. As a member-driven organization, TDA and its staff place high priority on providing information to the organizations and individuals who comprise TDA and who – in their own communities and at the Capitol – continually make the case for good transportation.

Helping leaders to lead
Legislators, government officials at all levels, and other transportation-policy leaders respect TDA and look to the organization for useful information and unbiased input on the full spectrum of transportation issues. TDA’s publications and studies and – most importantly – TDA’s members serve as resources providing these leaders with the information they need to outline effective transportation options, plans and solutions.

Credible information on key issues
TDA prides itself on keeping members and other transportation leaders aware of the latest developments and educated about current issues in transportation. Readers of TDA’s publications rely on TDA to produce credible, thought-provoking, insightful, content that covers the full range of transportation modes. TDA publications have been praised for taking complex transportation information and making it understandable for a broad audience. TDA produces several publications to achieve this objective.

TDA’s primary publication is its monthly newsletter. The TDA Newsletter provides members with a timely synopsis of need-to-know transportation news each month. The newsletter is distributed electronically. The current issue may be accessed by clicking here; back issues may accessed by clicking here. TDA also produces special reports and updates on a variety of timely topics, such as the state’s biennial budget.

TDA meetings and events
The Transportation Development Association typically hosts three major events throughout the year, an Annual Meeting, a Washington D.C. Fly-in, and the Madison Drive-in. The Annual Meeting, attended by members and others interested in transportation, features prominent and timely issues presented by respected speakers. The TDA Fly-in brings TDA members and other Wisconsin transportation leaders to the nation's capital. The Drive-in is a chance for transportation stakeholders to gather in Wisconsin's capital and discuss transportation policy with state legislators.

Public appearances and presentations
TDA staff travels the state attending key transportation related events and meetings. In addition, the Executive Director makes frequent presentations to a variety of groups such as business groups, service clubs, non-profit organizations, local government boards/committees, and specific corridor coalitions. Send presentation requests to TDA's Executive Director.

Working with WisDOT
TDA has a long history of working closely with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation on issues of mutual interest. Examples include TDA representation on the advisory committees providing input on updates to the State Highway System, State Airport System and State Rail plans. TDA and its members help make the case for WisDOT’s important work on behalf of the people and economy of Wisconsin. TDA’s efforts to educate the public, policy-makers and opinion leaders statewide about transportation finance serve to make clear the need to preserve and increase the state and federal transportation-derived revenues that fund WisDOT’s work.

Connecting with media
Working through media statewide to create public interest in key transportation issues is an ongoing, successful effort for TDA. The association office sends media kits, news releases, letters to the editor, and other materials to newspapers and broadcast stations statewide to encourage transportation-related media coverage. TDA’s Executive Director frequently meets with editors and reporters at major state newspaper to discuss transportation matters and TDA’s perspectives. Wisconsin media looking for a source of credible and useful transportation information regularly find just that in TDA. For specific TDA position statements, contact the TDA Executive Director.

In addition, the association often provides its own guest editorials in Wisconsin publications related to the transportation industry. If you are interested including a TDA guest editorial in your publication, please contact the TDA Office.
