11/6/25, WKOW-TV (ABC-Madison) – The city of Beloit called on Wisconsin lawmakers Thursday to increase funding for road projects.

The city says roads and highways running through the area need to be revitalized to keep up with updates to the city.

City leaders said that local and state funding hasn’t been close to the amount needed to keep highways and roads maintained. Leaders want the roads to be able to keep up with the growing demand of the city.

“Being at the center of so many state highways here, it’s really important that our infrastructure keeps pace with the business needs and the needs of our residents,” said City Manager Jerry Gabrielatos. “The funding for Beloit and other Wisconsin communities is just not adequate.”

The city currently has some ongoing road revitalization projects to improve safety, but says that the grants aren’t enough to expand the projects to make sure those roads are not only safe, but easy to drive on.

Highways running through the city include US-51, WI-81, and state trunk Highway 213.
