6/16/2016, WFRV Green Bay (video) – Whether it’s the state’s interstates or local streets, drivers are fed up with Wisconsin roadways.
“They’re pretty discouraging,” says Steve Eckstrom of Oconto.
“We pay all the taxes for that and there are a lot of pot holes,” explains Eckstrom.
Eckstrom drives from his home in Oconto to work in Pulaski and Green Bay.
“Every time on the way to and from work, you’re always worried about your car getting in the pot holes,” says Eckstrom.
A new report by TRIP, a national transportation research group, says more than 40-percent of the state’s roads are either in mediocre or poor condition.
“It seems like they’re getting worse every year. I mean the new construction, all the bypasses seem okay. Obviously they’re new, but it seems like they are not concerned with the ones that they’re not working on,” explains Steve.
That’s why a nonprofit group started a new campaign called Just Fix It, Wisconsin to demand that lawmakers fix the state’s crumbling infrastructure.
“If there is a road that’s causing problems, just send us your story or send us your pictures or send us your video. We’re just asking people to share their stories and tell us where it is and what kind of hardship it’s causing them,” says Craig Thompson of the Transportation Development Association of Wisconsin.
Thompson hopes that if people share their stories, lawmakers may be more inclined to take action.
“We’re trying to show what those numbers mean in people’s real lives that, that hopefully that might get us off the dime,” explains Thompson.
Governor Walker wrote an op-ed piece for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, defending his administrations use of transportation funding. To see that, click HERE.
