TDA Podcast Highlights Innovative Bridge Pilot Program
WisDOT, counties partner to save time and money
Madison, WI – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has launched an innovative reform to save cost and time on local bridge projects in cooperation with Wisconsin’s county highway departments. Dan Fedderly, executive director of the Wisconsin County Highway Association, explains the rationale and implementation of the low-risk bridge pilot program in a conversation with TDA’s Debby Jackson on the latest episode of the “On the Go” podcast.
“The pilot program is designed to get at the idea of how quickly we can actually produce a very simple local road project, and how we can reduce both the administrative effort as well as the oversight cost,” said Fedderly. “This will reduce project costs and expedite project time frames.”
While some progress was made in the last budget, Fedderly states a long-term solution to Wisconsin’s transportation challenges will include continuing efficiencies and finding additional revenue. “We need to do both, Fedderly concluded. “There is not one solution. It is all of the above.”
