Latest TDA Podcast: You Know it’s Coming…Counties Brace for Winter Snow Removal Efforts

MADISON, WI – With winter right around the corner, Eau Claire County Highway Commissioner Jon Johnson is the featured guest on the latest episode of the On the Go podcast. Johnson explains the logistics of snow removal and winter road maintenance and the challenges of managing through Wisconsin’s unpredictable winters and now a pandemic.

“It doesn’t matter what time, they know when the weather is coming, and they set aside their personal life – their spouses, their significant others,” said Johnson of the dedicated people who keep our roads cleared. “It’s the role they play, and it’s absolutely critical.”

Johnson urges drivers to assist winter maintenance crews by giving them room to do their job, slowing down, and paying attention to the road.

Essential workers will be on the job to keep Wisconsin’s roads safe, even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eau Claire County has done extensive planning to limit the spread of the coronavirus in the highway department and to ensure people are available to service state and county roads. “We are taking it very seriously,” stated Johnson. “I think a lot of people are realizing what happens if we don’t have the people to plow the roads.”

Hosted by TDA Executive Director Debby Jackson, On the Go explores issues surrounding transportation infrastructure and investment in Wisconsin and across the nation. The podcast is available on all popular podcasting platforms and via this link: https://tdaonthego.libsyn.com/.
