Transportation Development Association Executive Director Craig Thompson released the following statement on the Governor’s 2017-19 transportation budget:
“This transportation budget does not put forward a plan to solve Wisconsin’s long-term transportation challenge. It includes significant cuts to the overall state highway program, specifically projects in southeastern Wisconsin. The southeast freeways were constructed 50 years ago and are reaching the end of their useful lives. Their reconstruction cannot be delayed indefinitely.
“Wisconsin’s highways are already the worst in the Midwest. It will take leadership to stop the deterioration of Wisconsin’s roads and to ensure our roads and our entire transportation system are in better shape going forward. This is what people want. We hear it time and again as we travel the state on our Just Fix It campaign.
“We look forward to working with members of the legislature on a comprehensive, sustainable solution for Wisconsin transportation – one that addresses the needs of Wisconsin residents and businesses.”
